What Are Betting Odds?

Odds serve two purposes:

  • Show potential winnings: How much you'll receive if your bet wins
  • Indicate probability: How likely an outcome is (according to the bookmaker)

Lower odds = More likely to happen, smaller payout

Higher odds = Less likely to happen, bigger payout

Odds Formats on 1xBet

1xBet displays odds in three formats:

Odds Format Comparison
Format Example Common In
Decimal 2.50 Europe, Asia, Pakistan
Fractional 3/2 UK, Ireland
American +150 USA

You can change the format in app settings. Decimal is recommended for beginners.

Decimal Odds Explained

Most common and easiest to understand.

How to Calculate Winnings

Total Return = Stake × Odds

Profit = Total Return - Stake

Examples

Decimal Odds Examples
Stake Odds Total Return Profit
PKR 1,000 1.50 PKR 1,500 PKR 500
PKR 1,000 2.00 PKR 2,000 PKR 1,000
PKR 1,000 3.50 PKR 3,500 PKR 2,500
PKR 1,000 5.00 PKR 5,000 PKR 4,000
PKR 1,000 10.00 PKR 10,000 PKR 9,000

Key Points

  • Odds of 2.00 = Double your money
  • Anything above 2.00 = Profit exceeds stake
  • Below 2.00 = Profit is less than stake
  • Total return includes your original stake

Fractional Odds Explained

Written as fractions (3/1, 5/2, 1/4).

How to Read Fractional Odds

First number = Profit | Second number = Stake

  • 3/1: Win 3 for every 1 staked (plus stake back)
  • 5/2: Win 5 for every 2 staked
  • 1/4: Win 1 for every 4 staked

Examples

Fractional Odds Examples
Fractional Decimal Equivalent PKR 1,000 Stake Profit
1/2 1.50 PKR 500
1/1 (evens) 2.00 PKR 1,000
3/2 2.50 PKR 1,500
2/1 3.00 PKR 2,000
4/1 5.00 PKR 4,000
9/1 10.00 PKR 9,000

American Odds Explained

Uses positive (+) and negative (-) numbers.

Positive Odds (+150)

Shows profit on a 100 unit stake.

  • +150 = Win 150 on 100 stake
  • +200 = Win 200 on 100 stake
  • Higher positive = Less likely outcome

Negative Odds (-150)

Shows how much to stake to win 100.

  • -150 = Stake 150 to win 100
  • -200 = Stake 200 to win 100
  • Higher negative = More likely outcome

Conversion to Decimal

American to Decimal
American Decimal
-200 1.50
-100 2.00
+100 2.00
+150 2.50
+200 3.00
+400 5.00

Converting Between Formats

Decimal to Fractional

  1. Subtract 1 from decimal odds
  2. Convert to fraction
  3. Example: 2.50 → 1.50 → 3/2

Fractional to Decimal

  1. Divide first number by second
  2. Add 1
  3. Example: 3/2 → 1.5 + 1 = 2.50

Decimal to American

  • If decimal ≥ 2.00: (Decimal - 1) × 100 = positive odds
  • If decimal < 2.00: -100 ÷ (Decimal - 1) = negative odds

Odds and Implied Probability

Odds reflect how likely the bookmaker thinks an outcome is.

Calculating Implied Probability

Implied Probability = 1 ÷ Decimal Odds × 100%

Odds to Probability
Decimal Odds Implied Probability
1.25 80%
1.50 66.7%
2.00 50%
3.00 33.3%
4.00 25%
5.00 20%
10.00 10%
20.00 5%

Why Probabilities Don't Add to 100%

In a two-outcome market, probabilities often add to more than 100%. The extra percentage is the bookmaker's margin (also called "overround" or "juice").

Example:

  • Team A: 1.80 (55.6%)
  • Team B: 2.10 (47.6%)
  • Total: 103.2% (3.2% is bookmaker margin)

How Bookmakers Set Odds

Odds are determined by:

  • Statistical analysis: Team form, head-to-head, injuries
  • Market activity: How bettors are betting
  • Expert assessment: Odds compilers' knowledge
  • Risk management: Balancing liability

Odds change based on:

  • News (injuries, team selection)
  • Weather conditions
  • Betting patterns
  • Time until event
